This name was given in the village hardly in 1955, because the panorama place
that it possesses in westwards the gulf of Moydros. The old name was Sarpi and
it was reported in 1361 in documents of M. Layras (the Sarpion).
Certain older opinions that t name emanated from the Turkish word sarp =innacecible,
abrupt, should not is valid, unless accepts that the Turkish word emanated from
certain medieval Byzantine. The village up to the JZ' or JI' of century was
built 1600 m. eastern, in the bight Saint Georgios. The residents however him
abandoned because the marshy ground, but also for the fear of pirates.
In the Sarpi was founded the firstmutual teaching faculty of island (except
