Rossopoulio

The village took its name from one Byzantine landowner that was named Royssopoylos . In 1321 "the Kalyvia of Rwsopoyloy", as they are reported, were gifted in the Patriarchate . On Ottoman domination the name was in "Orsopoyl".
According to the delivery the village initially was built near in the sea to the Hortaroljmni, V.A. of current. It was transported because the piratical raids. A other oral delivery, somehow older, reports that existed a other settlement, which destroyed the Turks in 1770, because his residents helped the soldiers of Orlw'f, that had stratopedey'sej there near. The oral delivery is confirmed by the sightseers.

Concretely three sightseers at the JST' and JZ' of century mark in Eastern Limnos and northern the Voroskopos the harbour port de Mars(1549, the French Thevet) or Porto Marzo (the 1680-85, Anonymous German) or Porto Marze (1688, the Dutch Dapper). The T. Kabjde'lis him interprets as "harbour of Areios".
However the medieval words mars (gal.), marze (oll.) and marzo (germ.) it should they are interpreted as marshy, marshy ground. This results easily an we contrast the current words marais (gal.), moeras (oll.) and march (germ.), that means "marsh". It is explicit that it is the "Harbour of Marsh", which was found in the region of Hortaroljmnis.
One of the sightseers, the Anonymous German, marks the Porto Marzo as interior village, thing strange for harbour (PORTO). Very probably however existed also some near interior settlement (that many times the sightseers or ignored, or marked with erroneous name) with the Harbour of Marsh. This settlement perhaps was the place ,that devastated today houses ruins, perhaps and the Royssopoyli in his old place, where it existed before the Orloff's.
